Youth Olympic Gold for Handball Players

27. August 2014 Nanjing 2014 The Slovenian national handball team won the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, after defeating Egypt in the finals with 31:25 (13:11).

This is Slovenia’s seventh medal at the largest youth sports competition in the world. "The team was determined to win from the very beginning. You could tell. We owned the game. We took it up an extra notch in the second half-time, and whenever we do that, no team can compete with us", explained team captain Malus with a broad smile on his face. Janc added: "First, we need to thank all our supporters from Slovenia who came to cheer for us. I think it will only be tomorrow when we realise what our victory actually means for Slovenian handball. We are extremely happy." 
 
The gold was won by the dream team of Jakob Beđeti, Aleks Kavčič, Urh Kastelic, Matic Kotar, Jan Prevolnik, Rok Cvetko, Žiga Urbič, Blaž Janc, Jaka Malus, Gal Marguč, Luka Kikanović, Tilen Sokolič, Darko Stojnić and Leon Rašo. The team was completed by the coach Janez Klemenčič, assistant coach Vanja Kralj, and masseur Matej Kramer.
