First Slovenian medal in Utrecht

17. July 2013 Utrecht 2013 On the second day of competition at the European Youth Olympic Festival, the first medal for Slovenia was won by judoist Andreja Leški in the up to 48 kg category, who won her bronze medal after a win in the repechage.

Andreja Leški, member of Judo Club Bežigrad, stepped out on the Dutch tatami as the first representative of the Slovenian judo team. In her first match she won over Marion Huber of Italy and then lost to Betina Temelkova of Bulgaria. In the repechage she won over Margot Douville of France and Ana Maria Ioniti of Romania to snatch the bronze.

 

“It was hard. I’m very happy,  but I must admit I was aiming higher after the silver medal at the European Championships. This was my first appearance at EYOF, so it’s a great achievement,” said the 16 year old judoist who won silver at the Junior European Championships in June.
